Having your picture taken is a very intimate experience. Case in point - imagine you’re on vacation and you ask a stranger to snap a photo of you and your loved ones. Don’t you feel a bit awkward? Find yourself perfecting your smile? Standing up a little taller? Sheesh - just building up the courage to ask the person to take the photo can be a challenge. Now imagine your mom, your dad, your spouse, or even your bestie is taking your picture. It might still feel a bit awkward - I mean hey . . . we’re not all Gisele . . . but I bet you feel way more relaxed and not afraid to say “How do I look?” That’s the feeling I want you to have during our photo shoot together.
So welcome to - what I believe to be - the most important page of my website. Read on to learn more about me - Megan Shea - the creative behind the camera.
My photography business began years ago when I bought my first “fancy” camera. Lions and tigers and shutter speed and aperture - oh my! I quite literally said out loud “What did I get myself into?” Out of sheer terror at how to work such a sophisticated piece of machinery - I let it sit in the camera bag . . . for two years.
Fast forward to one March afternoon, when I found myself offering to take pictures at my niece’s baby shower with my - get ready for this - fancy camera! Nervous as could be - but determined to flourish not fail - I stepped out of my comfort zone and never looked back. Now I am blessed to say that my photography fairy tale has me living happily ever after.
Today my photography business is less the luck of the Irish and more the answer to my prayers. I feel so blessed to have turned my passion into my profession, and my business beliefs are simple. As a lifestyle photographer, I take both candid and posed pictures at all sessions. Final images are minimally edited and range in style from light & airy to warm & cozy to dark & moody. And I believe there is no occasion too small or insignificant to preserve forever on film!
So why work with me? Well, Megan Shea Photography is dedicated to the client experience. From your first wanderings around my website to that jaw drop when you view your final gallery, I want you to feel comfortable every step of the way and never have to wonder what happens next. To achieve this, I use a workflow that ensures I fully understand YOUR vision for YOUR session, contains communication all along the way to make the planning process run smoothly, and allows me to be as little or as largely involved in decision-making as you prefer. Ready to get started?
Let me capture your magical moments through photography's simple storytelling.
. . . but it lends itself so well to photography. I always saw my perfectionism as a flaw, but now I’m more in awe of how it helps me in my profession. It ensures your experience from vision to venue is just how you imagined it. Not to mention the benefit this personality trait plays in my editing process. Needless to say, you’ll get the very BEST images!
It’s a fact . . . my heart belongs to Ireland. Erik and I visited for our honeymoon and it was love at first Blarney Stone sight. And while I won’t show up to your shoot with an Irish accent (though gosh darn it, how I wish I did!) . . . rest assured your images will be rich with color, character and craic - all inspired by the Emerald Isle.
. . . And I tend to wear a lot of black - eek - but when you own a cream colored golden retriever, it just comes with the territory. Millie Moo - our goldie girl - was a puppy mill mom that we rescued back in 2022. Now she lives the good life full of cuddles and kibble. She’s usually snuggled up by my feet while I edit pictures after a photoshoot. I love her smooshed face, the cowlick on her nose, and her big floppy ears! I wear many hats - photographer, wife, believer - and dog mom is no exception to that list. Need further proof? One sec . . . just pulling up the thousands of photos of Millie in my camera roll!
Don’t be surprised if I ask for your song requests during our photoshoot! I love playing music while taking pictures - I need music in my life! From Abba to Zeppelin, I have an appreciation for all genres. And yet, you’ll most likely find me listening to movie scores and soundtracks. The instrumental music frees my mind to get the creative juices flowing. What’s currently queued up on my Spotify playlist? That would be the Outlander Season 1 soundtrack! If ye ken, ye ken!
Confession . . . I always have a few of MY favorite photos from a client’s session, but I always love to see the images YOU end up loving from your gallery. Those profile pictures, social media posts, and Christmas cards just fill my photographer heart and truly make this job so enjoyable!
YOUR FEET WILL BRING YOU
WHERE YOUR HEART IS.
